i've never written at length about my job. not here on this blog or anywhere else. my job is something i largely try to not bring home with me.
i work for a non-standard/high-risk auto insurance company. we insure people who have poor credit and driving histories, people who may have had a DUI (or three) in the past, etc., who aren't able to get insurance through a regular carrier. that's our 'niche market.' as such, many of our policyholders are in the lower social classes, and we offer mainly state minimum required coverages in the states we write insurance for. our policies are very specific and have several exclusions for unlisted drivers and so on. many of our insured's policies lapse for non-payment or insufficient funds.
i often don't know what to think precisely of my profession. due to the fact that our 'niche market,' so to speak, are high-risk drivers and are more prone to be involved in an accident, our policies have high premiums. unfortunate, but that is the cost of our business. i don't know how aware our insureds are of how their policies are written, which may possibly be a fault of the local agent or the insured him/herself. the final justification/reasoning: buyer beware.
i don't know where i'm going w/ this entry, either, readers and true believers. <---Stan Lee ref.
i'd apologize, but i'm not really sorry. i guess what i'm trying to do of late is what i've always tried to do: lay out my life in the black and white of a page (or the multi-colored polka dot pattern on navy of a standard blog template), and find out the left from right and up from down in my life.
i love the people at my work. there are some absolutely amazing people there. it's the job, the day-to-day calling and returning messages and working mail and working the phone and working new claims and requesting checks and writing PC TO NI @ 555.555.5555, LMOM REQING CB over and over and over and over and it doesn't stop and 'thank you for calling claims, this is blake, may i help you' that gets a little tiresome. sometimes.
i guess today's one of those days. a griping day. not every day is like today, but today just felt like an extension of monday. and overlong mondays are never welcome.

Blake-u, worry not, this isn't your "profession" it's your job...for right now. You're coming over the hill, the horizon in sight. It'll be over soon and you'll be on to bigger and better things. Everytime I think of you at work I think of a fat lady saying "sounds like someone's got a case of the Maundays" and "Hey Peter...what's happening," and lest we forget, "Um...that's my stapler...my stapler" Press through the hard times friend.
Wow, my thoughts too. I read this entry and the first thing that came to mind was that annoying receptionist from Office Space. Anyway man, I thik you're in a good spot. I would be more worried about you if you became complacent. The fact that you can still mentally remove yourself from situation means you haven't lost perspective or lost sight of your goals. Hang in there man!
