a grammatical explanation

so. in a moment of distracted, self-inflicted boredom i have decided to set the grammatical parameters of my blog.

1. capitalization is, for the most part, not happening. i prefer for my blog entries to take as little time as possible, and that means not having to ever press the 'shift' or 'caps lock' key. that and i prefer the uncapitalized look of blogs much more than those that are groomed to look like they're papers ready to be submitted to a professor or publisher. come on people, it's a blog...loosen up a bit.

2. the major exception to the rule no. 1 is book or album titles. when a book is first mentioned, it will be both capitalized and italicized in accordance with MLA, APA, and blake c's blog standards. if a book or album is mentioned more than once, any reference beyond the first will not be capitalized. i am that lazy.

3. rule no. 2 is subject to my memory. i will not comb through earlier entries to see if i've already mentioned a book or album. hence, i may capitalize or italicize the titles again and unconsciously disregard rule no. 2. come on people, it's a blog....loosen up.

4. the minor exceptions to rule no. 1 are quotations and proper names. i will make decisions concerning quotations and names purely on a whim. capitalization is subject to my mood at the time.

5. all rules of punctuation that i am aware of will be followed. i don't know all the rules yet, but once i learn them i will find ways to break them anyhow. consider these entries practice.

that's all i can think of for now, which means that's probably all i'll ever think of. because honestly i don't take this stuff very seriously. i'm just passing the time.
