So I have been trying to use the website pandora.com to find some new
music lately. For the unintiated, pandora lets you choose an artist or
band and then it creates a station that is supposed to play other
songs that match the style of the band you've chosen.
I had used the program before on occasion and never for very long.
They recently came out with an iPhone version of the page and, since
this is the first week I have had this thing I've been putting it
through it's paces. So I downloaded a copy.
Pandora is a pretty cool thing to have on a phone, but I have a
complaint. I am finding that the stations I create play the band or
artist that station is based on far too often. Like every song or two.
To be honest, I haven't been able to listen for a very long stretch--
usually between 15-30 minutes. I'm not sure if I would start getting
better variety if I listened longer or not. Has anyone else had this
experience?

there's a feature where you can tell pandora not to play a certain song for a month (without giving it a thumbs down). i too have the problem where i tend to hear the same songs, but there were times this year where i was listening to pandora for 8 hrs/day and only heard the same song once per day (which is WAYYY better than real radio). i've found pandora to be pretty useful in finding new music (although sometimes the song they play is the best from its album).
Hey Blake -
Micah is right, you can always tell Pandora to put a song you're bored with to sleep for a month.
And to add more variety to your station, just add a couple more seeds to it. That will make the playlist broader.
Have fun!

@micah:
thanks for the tip. i'll certainly try that out.

i appreciate you commenting! do you know if there is any way to seed more artists from the iphone app?
Ah. You currently have to add more station seeds at www.pandora.com, not in the iPhone app.
Sorry if that's inconvenient. :)
