a little more about grad school.

so i've discovered more things to say about grad school.

first off, i'm very excited. we'll leave it at that in this post. i already had one post dedicated soley to expressing my elatitudination. (that's right, i'm so excited i've had to create a new word to express it.)

now on to more specifics. i'm going to be in the School of Continuing Studies program at Northwestern, so i'll be keeping my day job and taking night classes. i'll possibly be commuting from naperville to evanston, which is a long commute.

the program i've been accepted into is a Liberal Studies program. there are four areas i could specialize in: history, american history, religious and ethical studies, or "individualized study." to be honest i don't know which one i'm leaning towards the most at this point and i will hopefully be paired with a good advisor who will help me in this decision.

since undergrad my interests still haven't narrowed that much. honestly, i read a lot less fiction, but i still have a broad base of interest. i'm seemingly equally compelled by technological innovation, the ethics of business practices, and american foreign policy and how these things all interact with one another. maybe i'm doomed to never be a specialist, or doomed to be a profanely obscure specialist. i can see myself in a few years saying "my masters thesis was on the connection between google search trends and public opinion concerning malfunctioning wii straps on the 800-900 block of Michigan Ave, and the broader social implications thereof." oh well. i'm sure it'll be an enlightening experience no matter what.
